# acoustic-toolbox

> Part of [LISQM](https://zhenxianli.github.io/LISQM/) (List of Implementations of Sound Quality Metrics), a list of open-source implementations of psychoacoustic metrics. Data as of 2026-10-28. Web page: https://zhenxianli.github.io/LISQM/projects/acoustic-toolbox.html

Python acoustics library under the Université Gustave Eiffel GitHub organisation, continuing python-acoustics. For this list it is relevant for its tonal audibility and tonal adjustment after ISO 1996-2:2007.

## What it implements

| Metric | Edition | Functions | Status | Validation (as stated) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| [Tonal audibility (ISO 1996-2)](https://zhenxianli.github.io/LISQM/metrics/tonal-audibility-iso-1996-2.html) | [ISO 1996-2:2007](https://www.iso.org/standard/41860.html) (tonal audibility and tonal adjustment) | `Tonality`, `tonal_audibility`, `tonal_adjustment` | available | own tests only | Module `acoustic_toolbox.standards.iso_1996_2_2007`, the same code lineage as python-acoustics. |

## How it was validated

As reported by the project; LISQM has not run the code. Two implementations that agree can still share the same error.

- [Tonal audibility (ISO 1996-2)](https://zhenxianli.github.io/LISQM/metrics/tonal-audibility-iso-1996-2.html), ISO 1996-2:2007: own tests only
  - Ported or adapted from [python-acoustics](https://zhenxianli.github.io/LISQM/projects/python-acoustics.html).
  - As in python-acoustics, the test of the examples in the standard is commented out.

## Notes

- Based on python-acoustics (per the README) and keeps its git history; development under the new name started in July 2024.
- It has no loudness, sharpness or roughness modules.

## Before you rely on it

- It follows ISO 1996-2:2007, which has been withdrawn; ISO 1996-2:2017 replaced its tonal audibility method with those of Annexes J and K.
